HOW we started

In 2019, wanting to start a business that reflected her personal values, Louise had the opportunity to purchase the Ecococoon business from the original owner.  Taking over Ecococoon felt like a dream come true – a venture she could manage from home while spending time with her young family.

However, she soon realised she lacked experience in running a small, product-based ecommerce business.

THE CHALLENGES

Two significant challenges loomed large for Louise and Ecococoon in the past 24 months.

The first was having their social media accounts hacked in 2022, resulting in a prolonged struggle to regain control. Although Louise eventually regained access, advertising with Meta remains restricted, posing an ongoing obstacle to driving website traffic.

The second significant challenge arose with the downturn triggered by the Covid pandemic, just at the time Louse had plans to expand the product range. Louise made the difficult decision to take on a second job.

Those two years proved to be among the most challenging of Louise’s life. However, through hard work, along with the unwavering support from Cath and the team, she produced remarkable results. Sales surged, enabling her to quit her other job.

The Solution

Here were the 3 key strategies we implemented to grow their year-on-year revenue by over 300%: 

1. Get More Traffic (Without Over-Paying!)

There are three different kinds of traffic and every successful eCommerce brand needs all three: owned, earned and paid.

However, since Ecococoon’s Meta ad accounts were hacked, they have been unable to leverage one of the two main paid traffic channels, putting further pressure on other channels to perform.

Ecococoon now has Google Ads converting profitably, consistently generating 40-45% of website traffic and sales, and converting at a profitable rate (6.5% conversion rate and 7.7x ROAS)!

Their website is now well optimised for SEO and earns 18% of revenue from organic search (the free stuff!).

And, as a result of consistent and ongoing email list-building and email marketing efforts, they generate nearly 30% of revenue from the database they own (also basically free traffic!)

2. Increase Sales Conversions & First-Order Value

Scaling an eCommerce business can be a massive drain on cash flow, so it’s critical to maximise the website conversion rate and average order value from new customers.

Doing so improves the return on ad spend (ROAS) from paid traffic, and it also generates new revenue fast enough to keep growing quickly.

With regular tweaks and optimisations to the website to improve the conversion rate by 43%, and the introduction of new products and bundles helping to increase their AOV by 58%, Ecococoon has been able to make more money, faster!

3. Maximise Customer Lifetime Value

Because it costs money to acquire each new customer, in the form of paying for traffic and offering discounts and incentives, it is pretty difficult to grow a profitable business if customers only buy one time.

By implementing a promotional calendar that incorporates regular marketing emails and promotions, Ecococoon has increased their returning customer rate by 13% year on year.

The Results

1. Increasing the revenue from ‘Owned’ data – revenue generated from their Klaviyo database increased over 330%! The ROI on this revenue is huge – 3800%. This single datapoint resulted in a massive increase in profitability for this brand.

2. Massively increasing the revenue from from Google Ads traffic by 388% with a high return on ad spend (ROAS) of 7.75, contributing significantly to the revenue growth and accelerating the speed of growth.

3. Increasing the revenue from free Organic Search traffic by 32%, also contributing a significant improvement to the overall profitability of the business.

4. Increasing the website conversion rate by 43% and AOV by 58%, massively increasing the revenue per website visitor and maximising the results of all the marketing.

And this was only the beginning!

I don’t know about you, but that’s a pretty good ROI for eCommerce!

While the brand continues to scale and grow and is on track for bumper growth in the next year, it’s important to mention that they are selling quality products and brands. That’s important.
